Behavioral Health EHR Must Ask Questions 2.0

words-displays-to-information-truth-theory-and-fact-100264511It All Begins Before You Start Demos

  • The research and demo process can tell you almost everything you need to know about an EHR vendor. Do you have the time and the staff to traverse this rocky road on your own?
  • If this isn’t your first rodeo with an EHR, work with vendors that have nothing to hide
  • Avoid vendors that shout out in their marketing material how honest they are, would never hold your data hostage, etc. – professionals don’t need to make these claims in their material
  • There’s a diagnosis code for this kind of behavior

HIPAA Policies and Procedures for Behavioral Health

HIPAA policies and procedures are an essential part of implementing an effective compliance program in your behavioral health practice.

HIPAA Privacy and Security standards must be addressed by a series of policies and procedures that work throughout your entire practice, according to federal regulation. These policies and procedures form the basis of an effective compliance program–all activities involving the use, storage, and distribution of protected health information (PHI) are governed by these regulatory standards.

Listen to our podcast with CEO Marc Haskelson.

Easy Steps for HIPAA Security

Understanding HIPAA security standards is an important element in becoming HIPAA compliant. HIPAA regulation mandates that covered entities, such as physicians, insurance companies, and health care clearinghouses, implement an effective compliance program that addresses the full spectrum of security standards to safeguard patient health data.

March 1st HIPAA Breach Report Deadline to HHS

The March 1st HIPAA Breach Report Deadline is fast approaching. The HIPAA Breach Notification Rule requires health care providers to report breaches of unsecured protected health information (PHI) within 60 days from the end of the calendar year to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR).

HIPAA Enforcement on the Rise

Presence Health is one of Illinois’ major healthcare networks. Presence operates physicians’ offices and health care centers and offers home care, hospice care, and behavioral health services, as well.

Historically, medical specialists working in behavioral health services have been largely spared from large-scale HIPAA enforcement fines. But this fine suggests a growing trend in HIPAA enforcement–settlements are quickly moving away from traditional enforcement, into more niche health care sectors.

Welcome Director of Security Donna Li Puma

We are pleased to welcome Donna Li Puma as our Director of Security for Mental Health News Radio Network. Donna has been providing us with her unique perspective on how to ensure the safety of our interviewers at conferences for some time. We have now asked her to join our team because of the unique understanding of mental wellness she learned through her career and personal life experiences.

Donna’s career in law enforcement was as an officer in New York, New Hampshire and Florida, where she earned certification as a firearms instructor.  She is very proud to have been selected to work in the first private police force for the Olympic Games and with President Reagan’s body guard team during his first term. She also served a tour of duty with the U.S. Army’s Military Intelligence Branch. After discharge she worked for the Federal Aviation Administration in Miami as a Detective, Internal Investigator. She was called back to active duty after 9/11 and had assignments in both Desert Storm and in-country Iraq, reaching the rank of Captain. A full resume of her career in this field includes work as a Federal Computer Crimes Investigator, a Special Agent and more than fifteen years in military intelligence.

We are proud to have Donna on our growing team and look forward to her presence at all venues (even if no one but our team knows exactly where she is).

Is Narcissism Psychological Viagra? Join Counselor Andrea Schneider and Host Kristin Walker

One of the most damaging psychological mechanisms an extreme narcissist will use in their tormented tool chest is SEX.

THE PROMISE OF IT

THE MECHANICAL ACTION OF IT

THE WITHHOLDING OF IT

We carefully use the word sex in relation to what happens because, to the narcissist, the beautiful act of making love is an impossibility. Sex is one of their most powerful weapons of your mass destruction. If you are a highly empathic person with an abundance of compassion, an intoxicating imagination, and issues around appropriate boundaries, you are the perfect meal for the emotional impotence of a narcissist.

On this episode of Mental Health News Radio author and counselor, Andrea Schneider, joins host Kristin Walker to discuss the relationship between narcissism and sex. In her book, Soul Vampires: Reclaiming Your Lifeblood After Narcissistic Abuse, Andrea takes readers on a journey through the phases of the romantic journey with a narcissist. She shares her expertise with us on the show and in co-writing the blog article to accompany this highly charged subject.blog-talk-radio
