She founded her own life coaching business and is a certified AACC Life Coach. She also has professional training in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy through the world renowned EAGALA certification program. Her expertise is multi- dimensional as she has counseled those suffering with eating disorders, Brain Injury, Borderline Personality Disorder, depression and anxiety, self-mutilation, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and unresolved grief. She volunteers as a therapist at her local health care ministry and finds great value and importance in the non-profit sector. She is also a fitness enthusiast. She competed in fitness competitions at the age of 16 and went on to become a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine. She often incorporates fitness and wellness into her life coaching and counseling treatment plans. Melanie thrives in the area of Personal Relations. She is often the go to person for marketing and PR within the companies in which she works. Her ability to connect and establish meaning relationships with others is at the heart of what she feels are her largest contributions.
Melanie became known as a therapist that could successfully counsel difficult to treat patients. She is often referred clients who have been through multiple therapists or treatment facilities with no remission or healing. She became the referred therapist for Northfield Foundation, a non-profit treatment facility in Cumberland Virginia that focuses on young women with eating disorders and other difficult to treat diagnoses. During her work with hard to treat patients, she began to use an array of experiential therapies; Equine Therapy being one of them. After shadowing a local equine specialist she eventually got her own horse that she would incorporate into her treatment plans. She immediately recognized the power of the Equine and sought professional training to enhance her skill set. Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association or EAGALA was her obvious choice due to the reputation they have in the therapy realm. EAGALA was the first certification program to successfully bill insurance companies for Equine therapy.
Melanie worked with a nationally known forensic Neuropsychiatrist. She is versed in medication management for TBI as well as the psychological effects it often imposes on its victims. She completed her internship as a Chaplain at the Riverside Rehabilitation Institute for TBI patients. She also gained skills in Family therapy during her treatment of TBI patients. She served as the marketing liaison for the Virginia Institute of Neuropsychiatry networking with attorneys who also specialize in Traumatic Brain Injuries.
In 2010, Melanie founded Talk to Melanie, an online life coaching site. She obtained her certification through the American Association of Christian Counselors. Life coaching became a way for her to not only help people heal from the past, but also succeed in the future. She practices life coaching because it helps identify each persons’ hidden potential. She has done divorce, career, wellness, and relationship coaching. Her dedication to the wellness and wholeness of others is evident in her commitment to seeing her clients through until the end. She believes that to live happily one must live authentically.
Most recently Melanie has worked in the public mental health field as a counselor for schizophrenic adult males living in group homes. She is also a service facilitator for Medicaid based programs that serve the disabled community.
