Is There More Funding for Mental Health Providers? Yes! The State Innovation Model Grant (SIM)
The SIM Grant
State Innovation Model Grant
When our phone starts ringing off the hook with questions about additional funding for mental and behavioral health providers and organizations, we pay attention. We have put together some information for our providers and have created our Behavioral Health EHR recommendation list for organizations applying for this funding. It is important to make sure the EHR is right for your practice. In one phone call we can help you determine which vendors you should be working with and those you shouldn’t. Contact us for a complete assessment.
The State Innovation Models Initiative will be awarding as much as $300 million to participating states and will focus on healthcare organizations that have a high number of Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
What does this mean for mental health organizations? Funding for your electronic health records (EHR) software adoption. The participating states are listed on the CMS.gov site:
Maine is one of the first states to be awarded the Maine SIM Grant RFP for Behavioral Health HIT Reimbursement. The RFP for the state of Maine behavioral health organizations can be found here.
Organizations that apply for and receive SIM funding in any participating state will be behavioral health organizations that cater to large Medicare and Medicaid clientele. States will be looking for providers that make use of built in clinical outcome measurements, extensive reporting, and mobile access. EHR vendors will also need development and support staff to support their software to these larger mental health centers. For any organization at the beginning their EHR search, please review our article on EHR Sales Demo Trickery and use this as a guide during your demonstrations.
If you are a mental health provider or behavioral healthcare organization in a participating state, please contact our office to discuss a demonstration of our recommended Mental/Behavioral Health EHRs. We will provide assistance during your RFP process in order to secure funding for your technology adoption.
